Residents are over pensionable age and reasonably fit. The Bishop's Stortford Abbeyfield House is home for 8 older people. Each resident has her/his own room which can be furnished with their own treasured furniture and possessions. The house has a well equipped bathroom and toilet on each floor. A large lounge/dining room overlooks the rear garden.
The Abbeyfield way of life provides a balance of privacy and caring support which can be ideal for many older people who no longer feel happy living alone or sharing their children's home. The support in Bishop's Stortford is provided by our paid full time House Manager and local volunteers.
Our House Manager cooks the main meals for lunch and supper. Residents prepare their own breakfast but the housekeeper does all the shopping and provides the food.
Abbeyfield is affordable to all regardless of income. Lighting, heating, food and use of washing machine are included in the weekly charge. Charges can be met through private resources, housing benefit or income support. The house is financially self-supporting with the running costs met by residents' weekly charges which are reviewed annually.
